CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES

Nurse’s Office Procedures

  • If your student is running a temperature of 100.0 or greater, has vomited and/or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours, if their throat is swollen and/or red, or if there are white areas on the tonsils KEEP THEM HOME. These are all obvious signs of a contagious illness.
  • If you have to tell your student things like “Try to make it” or “If you feel worse go to the nurse” then you may want to consider keeping them home. It is much easier to call them in sick for the day than it is for the nurse to send them home once they’re here. Certain criteria must be met in order for the student to be sent home sick and have the absence excused.
  • Attendance and illness (See Student Handbook for more information)
    • You can call, email, or send a note to the attendance clerk for absences up to 3 consecutive days.
    • If your student is going to be out more than 3 consecutive days due to illness or injury, a doctor’s note is required to excuse the absences.
    • The school may request a doctor’s note at any point if a questionable pattern of absences occurs due to illness or other condition.
  • Medications at School
    • A note signed by the student’s doctor or healthcare provider and a parent/guardian must be on file for the student take any kind of prescription medication at school. This includes daily prescription medication for things like ADD or ADHD, inhalers, epi pens, diabetic medications, etc.
    • Controlled medications like those prescribed for ADD and ADHD must be dropped off/picked up by a parent/guardian. Students are not allowed to have these types of medications on their person on school property.
    • Students are allowed to take over the counter medication at school with a signed parent/guardian note that includes student’s name, name of medication, and dosage to be taken.
    • ALL MEDICATION, PRESCRIPTION OR OVER THE COUNTER, MUST BE IN IT’S ORIGINAL CONTAINER. IF IT IS A PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION, THE PRESCRIPTION LABEL MUST BE ON THE PACKAGE WITH STUDENT’S NAME, DOSAGE, AND INSTRUCTIONS.
    • All notes for medications, prescription and over the counter, must be renewed each school year.
  • If your student is sick and needs to go home
    • The student must be seen by the nurse and assessed before leaving school. If a student is picked up due to illness but has not seen the nurse before leaving the absence will be unexcused.
    • The student must meet certain criteria in order to be deemed “sick” and be sent home by the nurse.
    • If the student is sick and being sent home by the nurse, the student must be picked up within an hour of the nurse calling home apart from extenuating circumstances.
  • Please keep your phone numbers and emergency contacts up to date in Skyward and please try to answer the phone during school hours if a call is coming in from the school. This is especially important in the event of any type of emergency.
